Picking Out Kids Area Rugs
A great way to add design elements to kids rooms is with area rugs. It is easy to find small rugs that match the accent colors and design themes in most kids rooms. They also have kids area rugs that double as play mats. There are several things to consider when picking out an area rug for a child's room, including size, color, and patterns.
Size - If you get a rug that is too big, it can make the room seem smaller than it is. The edges of the rug can also interfere with the opening and closing of the bedroom door. Too large a rug can pose a trip hazard as the edges may curl up along the walls. A rug that is too small will not be as aesthetically pleasing as a rug that is the right size and it can also pose a trip hazard. Measure the space that you need the area rug to cover before going out to look at them.
Color - If you want to find kids area rugs that match a certain accent color in the room, it is a good idea to bring a sample of the color with you. Finding a rug with the accent color as well as other colors will mean that it is more likely to match the room decor even if it changes over time. Keep in mind the size of the room. A color that is too bright or intense can make the space seem smaller than it is.
Patterns and Pictures - There are many kids area rugs that feature licensed characters on them, which tend to attract the attention of many kids. It may, however, be a good idea to steer away from these types of rugs. Just because the child loves that character now, doesn't mean they will still love them in a year. Having a rug that matches color but not necessarily pictures means that it will probably last through more decor changes.
Double Duty - If you have a child that likes playing with toy cars and trucks, consider looking for rugs that look like maps or have roads drawn on them. For children that like playing with horses, rugs depicting outdoor scenes might offer some creative play options.
Kids area rugs offer a great way to add some flair to the room and also protect the existing carpet from spills and other accidents that are common in kids' rooms. They are easy too match to other decor elements in the room. They also allow for a neutral colored wall-to-wall carpet to be installed as the area rug is easy to switch as room decor changes over time.
